Last year I created this giant swinging fish.
The interior was a complex wire frame covered in fabric scales.
It was designed as a kinetic sculpture that would swing in the wind.
This year the goal is to create something more personal and moveable- a puppet.
Initial Concept Sketches and Story Notes
Wolf’s home is destroyed in a forest fire. His beloved trinket collection is burnt to a crisp.
Wolf travels far and soon he stumbles upon a very large cottage that houses a very large frog. Mister Frog offers Wolf shelter and hot soup for the night. The two lounge by the fireplace and talk for hours. Frog realizes that Wolf has quite a journey to go and shares his tamed fire with wolf.
Wolf finally reaches the Rock Giants, but there is no dandelion ring to return home to. He sits down and begins to cry. The rock giants awake to his loud sobbing and begin to sing in the way enchanting rock giants do. As Wolf’s tears fall and the Rock Giants sing, dandelions sprout all around Wolf and he is returned to his home.
Wolf opens his eyes to his little patch of forest. He places the dandelion in the burnt archway of his house. He uses his tamed fire to set up camp and drinks from his watering shell as he places a few twigs together to form a small shelf. Before dozing off, Wolf places his sparkling dragon shell in his bare bones shelf- the start of a new wonderful collection.
Running from the fire he stumbles into a dandelion forest ring. Wolf emerges in another world. Lost and upset, he is greeted by two kind sphinges. They tell him the portal home is a great distance ahead near the Rock Giants. They offer him a dandelion - a magical charm for protection.
Wolf stumbles upon water fairies. The colony is fishing and wolf jumps in to help. As a parting gift Wolf shares part of his fire orb. The water fairies never really mastered fire, so the tamed fire would be a great help in creating all sorts of fish dinners. To return Wolf’s kind offer they gift him dried fish and a watering shell to fuel him for the rest of his journey.
Later, as Wolf looks up at the beautiful sky, he sees several dragons flying buy. One of their shimmering scales fall and Wolf catches it.
